I like both, but its a no brainer as to which one has the stronger staying power, the larger mass appeal, and the more significant cultural impact.

Hot girls in slave Princess Leia tops everything but I have to say that the SW prequels have really sullied my feelings on SW.

Star Destroyers have some kind of shielding, they are trying to raise them at max power when that dude comes crashing in the picture window in his A wing. Also in ANH, am pretty sure Luke mentions something about a shield to Artoo, that he should try to fix it or something. But Star Trek has the way better shields.

I love the pic of Kirk kissing Leia. That's exactly what would have happened too, had they met.

considering they both have been around for decades and both have countless millions of fans and spinoffs....why is it a no brainer exactly?

No denying ST is big, but I just think that SW has had a much bigger impact on pop culture and has had better staying power. It's not even that close, actually.

All the griping about the Star Wars BD release and it still crushes the sales record. Walk down a toy ailse and compare the amount of SW vs ST stuff available. etc, etc, etc

Are we really comparing star wars to star trek based on how many toys there are or by the quality of stories and how they dealt with real world issues and topics?

Star Wars is fairy tale fantasy set in space opera environs.
Wizards, dark lords, magic, princesses, hero's quests. etc.
A long time ago, far away. etc etc.

Star Trek is practically a map of human purpose in comparsion.
How we want the future for humanity to be.
It also has supported far more stories through TV series and I think that is because it is about us. "The human adventure is just beginning." A lot of the thinking that went into Trek was well thought out as to what could be possible one day.

Star Wars may be more cool and "popular" in some respects.
Trek is far more relevant, and important as I see it. Dreams are maps.
There is overlap of course. SW has some things to offer too.
