I think it's a great movie with a superb artistic vision and full of subtexts.
The version I'd suggest is the Final Cut, being Ridley Scott's preferred version.

It's one of the best visual, conceptual, and artistic sci-fi movies ever made, with an excellent cast that give moderate performances at best, that drags on way too long in several spots that leave only the largest of Uber-nerds wondering why they are watching a long, boring movie that you have to work at to locate the redeeming qualities. BUT since it does have a well respected Director, and Leading Male actor...it's a must see just so you can say that you have!

Blade Runner is true sci-fi, in that it's all about ideas, both moral and philosophical, rather than just being an action film in a futuristic setting, which is all most so called sci-fi films are these days. It also demands more of it's viewers by taking a very deliberate noir type pacing and atmosphere, and not merely going for the usual fast paced wizz-bangery and throw away popcorn action dynamics.
I understand why a lot of people can't get into it, but to me it's still one of the greatest, and truest sci-fi films ever made, and a truly great film in it's own right.
