I think most people would be open to the idea of more LOTR films. I think the issue most people have is what will it look like. In 2024, films have become much more about check-box casting than about storytelling.

True. I'll absolutely give it a chance. Let's just hope it's not as bad as Rings of Power.

When Two Towers came out everything was Gollum, Gollum, Gollum. All movies are cash grabs.

Any Venom 2 is inherently a different movie from anything Lord of the Rings.

I would say it is much more difficult to make a mainstream sequel with what is supposed to be a super gruesome character including humor, than a movie already instantly pigeon holed as a nerd period piece with at least a curios fan base.

Even when Sam Rami had Venom he stumbled in a lot of people's eyes.

Lots of movies are trending toward the "girl power" theme. Jackson has tried to incorporate this into his LOTR and Hobbit movies as well. I can't see a Smeagol/Gollum movie doing this without it being cringy. There are other stories out there in the Legendarium that could lean that way and be good. I just don't understand this path they are taking.

I think with Jackson involved they'd at least try to get it closer to source material. Rings of Power felt like a rushed fan fiction set in Middle Earth.

My big hope is the studio doesn't rush them or over manage as the Hobbit films suffered from that.

True, or riddle them with bad CGI.

Cash grab. Like what original material would it be based on?

I'm guessing what little was mentioned about Sm?agol before he became Gollum. The matriarch of his family and how he became a pariah after he killed Deagol. Sneaking around and finding out secrets about people. Not much to go on.
