He carefully and proudly nurtured that thread.
He's insulted and offended that it was taken away from him, and in this case, a "replacement" thread just isn't going to cut it for him.
I don't mean to be insulting, so please don't take this next comment that way:
Just because you and/or anyone else didn't think the group threads would suffer by being restarted each year doesn't mean that the people who started them and faithfully used them feel the same way.
