Why is there such a long delay for retailers?

I hope it's nowhere near that long. But when you introduce several intermediaries into the process, that each require shipment to, inventorying, and then shipment from I would expect you would be tacking on 2-3 weeks per each new added step.
And that would more jibe with some retailers who were giving out a February release date for this.

February seems to be on the extreme end- but Jan isn't really that far off- especially when it's getting shipped to two other locations first, before it gets to us.

That has to be just Gentle Giant being slow with processing. I don't see that much of a delay with Sideshow and Hot Toys stuff on other sites. Their statues and figures show up on sites for shipping at most a week or so after release.

Got an email back from Spec Fiction and they couldn't give me an exact date but they thought they'd both be arriving around the same time.

I mean, it won't be shipping in two weeks right?
