I am no Superman lore expert. But I do remember that Krypton was being destroyed by some event that was making it unsustainable as a planet let alone a place to raise your son. It seems that the Kryptonite came from that catastrophic event. The other thing is that due to the writers limited understanding of such things. I think it would be safe to give them a pass on this one. It truely is not very scientific.

The again most things in the Hero genre are. Where does all that mass come from when Giantman grows or the Hulk hulks up. How can Invisible woman see if her eyeballs are invisible to light too. What makes Human torch lighter then air if he is still flesh and blood under that thing coat of flames. if Wolverine is impervious to the effects of Alcohol then why does he still get knocked out by knockout gas? Just saying. It is comic book science
