Yeah the prequals are just something I don't want to look at anymore. I like some ship designs but when they are on TV, I don't bother. There is something antiseptic about them. The OT I will leave them on everytime.

Besides the 1st 3 Star Wars movies there really isn't much more to it than the merchandise. With Star Trek there's so much more. There' Star Trek 1,2,3,4,6, plus Star Trek Generations, Star Trek First Contact and the Star Trek reboot (I won't even mention the TV stuff). I'm voting based on sheer volume of material to watch that is great. My vote goes to ST! And I have once again tied the vote.

The SW Trilogy was great, even with the highly flawed ROTJ. I loved this stuff for years. Collecting SW was always more interesting than ST.
But then Lucas re-did the movies, and introduced us to the prequels and giving the impression that he's inventing stuff as he goes along. The original SW magic sort of faded away.
The final straw was the use of Hayden Christensen in place of Sebastian Shaw as the spirit of Anakin Skywalker. That was ridiculous.
In the end I voted for ST. Star Trek seems to have held together over the years a lot more consistently and the stories are much more interesting.

Star Wars and the only reason that I voted for it was becuase of:
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
SW the Clone Wars TV show
The rest of it I could do without. Especially the last 3 movies.

Star Wars for me. It's made a much stronger impact than Trek around the world imo.

I would say Trek has had more impact on the world in a practical way. SW yes probably in an entertainment way is more popular.
People for decades were inspired to pursue careers in science and technology because of Trek. Doctors, engineers, astronauts, all kinds of things like that.
I don't hear too many people cite SW as inspiring them on that level for those directions in life.
Original Trek was created by people that were WWII veterans, pilots, police, that kind of thing and based Trek on the best future technological guesses at the time. Lucas of course was deeply into the common myths of storytelling through history with all he Joseph Campbell Power of Myth stuff.
SW is very much "Once upon a Time" which is always popular but we can never dream of actually going there.
Star Trek is starting to come true in some areas.
Look at your flip phone, or touch screens like on Next Gen, military high energy beam weapons, or the diagnostic screens in a hospital. The people that watched Trek, wanted to make those things real.
So for impact on humanity Trek I think wins that.

I like both but I'd have to go with Star Wars as my favorite.

I'd go with Star Wars-there aren't any really cool bounty hunters in Star Trek that I know of.

I've always loved the original SW trilogy... but the new trilogy = bleh. On the other hand, I was never a Star Trek fan but the latest 'reboot' movie was absolutely great!
