what's the story with mcfarlane anyways? i haven't followed him in a while and collected his action figures up until series 28 i think. then it suddenly stopped. was there a business deal that went bad or was he just a bad boss? i can't imagine what kind of person he'll be at the Baltimore Comicon.

McFarlane ran in to a lot of problems. It was kind of a 'perfect storm' situation. The company expanded too quickly for its own good, the economy tanked, and there were several licenses in a row that failed to make any money. That all pretty much happened over the course of 3-4 years. Things spiraled down very quickly and it sucked. But anyway, let's focus on the cool stuff ARH is doing. I think this company has the potential to be better than McFarlane. Think about how young ARH is. Only way is up!

I started sculpting freelance for McFarlane right at the end. That sucks that He ran into all those problems. Todd hired me back in the 90's to draw comics for him for awhile and he was very cool to me back then. I had the honor of sitting in on a huge meeting where McToys(name at the time) was officially started as a company. Sad to see it come to an end.
Anyway I agree ARH is starting to put out some awesome stuff! Dragons, mythology, Altertons line. Great stuff!

No doubt ARH will be a company to watch just because it's unique. They have potential to really do some amazing work. I would definitely love for them to do a mythical beast line, griffons, rocs, etc. Best part is, they don't even need licenses to do those, so a much lower overhead.

No they haven't gone out of business. They are kind of on their back at the moment. They are operating with a skeleton crew right now. I believe they only have 3 in house artists at the moment. All of which are working digitally. They are focusing almost entirely on sports stuff. It seemed that over the last few years Todd couldn't make money on anything but sports. All of the other projects (licensed AND un-licensed) totally bombed. It sucks. I had so much fun working there. At one point there were 17 in house sculptors and as many as 9-10 product lines being sculpted at once. All in wax! But who cares! This is ARH territory!
