Responded to this about 5 years ago, but I'm still a consultant.
The only differences now:
1. I have my own company.
2. I've been working remote for sometime (pre-C19).
3. I have a crapload of monitors.

Well it’s official. I “used” to teach at a university. Got some options, just need to weigh them. Gotta admit, this feels pretty good.

well my job has changed one more time. In October, my dept was dissolved by the financial institution that I worked for. This was the first time that I was ever laid off in my life (I had switched jobs and moved to different companies but that was always me making the move). It was very scary but in a way very good because everyone in my dept was miserable because the dept was so mismanaged.
Anyway, 3 weeks into my unemployment I was interviewed by the same financial institution that I worked for and now am working in the Student lending dept where I work with people who refinance their student loans. Since there was so little time from when I was unemployed with the same company I went back with all the same seniority and vacation time and benefits. It was pretty much like I was on a leave of absence.

Sorry to hear about that but it sounds like you are in a good position to make your next move. Are you planning to find a similar teaching role?

Glad it worked out. Hopefully your new department will have a better work environment. I?ve been on teams where everyone dreads coming into work. Not a good way to foster productivity.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

The work environment is a night and day difference. So very positive. My old manager was fantastic but she was just as miserable as the people she managed and unfortunately had to answer to people who were not effective.

I own an independent pharmacy, an urgent care clinic, and an insurance company. Though with the hell that has been the last two years, I've had many, many moments when I wish I'd gotten into something else.

I know of at least two other universities that need someone like me. I could be a public school principal again (those folks are quitting left and right) or I could go back to personal security. That pays better than all of them.
