Yeah! all of those artists were awesome back in the day,but the detail in McFarlane draws and the style he gave to Spidey was revolutionary. Before Mc Farlane Spiderman looked like a mexican-high flyer luchador with a very cool suit, When redesign it looked like an olympic Gold medal gymnastist, with inhuman form (the eyes seem alienish) and I don't want to mention the web! The storylines were more "novelesques thanks from help from Peter David" and the whole attitude of Spidey was very dramatic yet funny. I enjoy the run and his work (like Romita/Dikto) it transended 20 year later, Hollywood used his design and style on the movies. In Spideman's Torment series the Lizard fought Spidey destroying his mask and they render that scene in the movie (but with the Goblin) and a lot of things more of the Mc F era.The 70's Spidey movies and the TV series (animated and live action)looked more like Romita/Dikto stuff. The web was like a net and he swings from building to building like Tarzan...seemed to worked at that time. I love Zeck's Punisher, but Buscema /Bagley's Spidey...hmmm! They were jobbers!

In no particular order:

Steven Butler (got shuffled off far too soon), Mark Bagley, Mike Wieringo, Steve Skroce, Barry Kitson, Steve McNiven [even though "One More Day/Brand New Day" destroyed the character beyond salvage, the artists have been great], both Romitas, Gary Frank, and Alex Saviuk (the Spidey of my youth).

I guess my tastes swing toward the more recent side of the pendulum.

I'm partial to John Romita Jr from his run on Amazing in the '80's as being my favorite period, and thus my favorite artist. Not as wild about his more current stint on the title though. A few others that I was particularly fond of (in no particular order):
Ron Frenz
Sal Buscema
Al Milgrom- great run on Peter Parker, Spectacular Spiderman
Ross Andru
Mike Zeck
Jim Mooney
Jon Romita Sr
and Steve Ditko.

I also really liked McFarlane's work on the title and agree that it was revolutionary; especially as his influence is still being felt to this day. McFarlane did some great work and brought a fresh, energetic, dynamic aesthetic to the character. I just don't think I love McFarlane's work on it as much as other seem to. I also don't like the character of Venom, which puts me in the minority.
