It looks like importing was the safest route for this variant statue. I was going to try the membership route but a best of luck lottery system stopped that idea.
The problem is flippers and the ease at which one can do it these days. You have credit cards and eBay. Add in limited items with high demand/low supply and a person could make a good living choosing the right items to flip. There is simply no way of knowing who the true fans are so I guess this is the best route for Gentle Giant. It does suck for true fans though. But I still do think that Sideshow's method of pre-ordering is the best. You can't catch everyone at the same time regardless of when you put an item up for sale.

a) we have collectors around the world that want this piece, and just saying "all 100 will go up for sale at 1pm PST" isn't fair to our collectors that will be asleep or stuck at work without access to the 'net when it happens.
b) there are only 100 available and the demand is significantly higher than the supply
c) this prevents less scrupulous collectors with multiple accounts on our site and a fast connection from buying multiples when they go up and sticking it to the rest of the community by trying to flip them for significantly more money on auction sites
It *will* be done completely randomly (with the results being checked to ensure no one gets a duplicate order in there before cards are processed). No favorites will be played.
We're not just doing this lightly; we talked about this decision extensively internally, going over a couple of different options for distribution before deciding that lottery was the best way to go, considering the circumstances.
If you've got questions, please feel free to ask me.
Thanks!

Its impossible to please everyone. With so few available, I think this is a fair way to do it.

I just hope I get one. I want her for my collection, not to flip.

Yes, I also think that the lottery system is fair due to the reasons Rogue pointed out.

I would also love to have one, for my collection, not to flip. I just don't know if I want to go through another month of stress hoping my number comes up lucky in the lottery (plus the fee to get into that lottery lol), when in all likelihood it'll be another goose egg. Something to ponder for the weekend.

Yup, a must see/have film.
And yup, it's a fair game and I'm still flipping mine.
