If you're going to be bad, then be the biggest and the baddest.

Equally amusing is my failing grasp on the English language in that sentence; migraine.

I agree...someone picking Red Skull is a shocker.

moving on, I have never considered Magneto to be a bad guy...although some of his earlier appearances do not portray his depth...I never really saw him as a bad guy. Same goes for Dr. Doom really.

1. How is the Red Skull any worse than Mephisto?

2. How could Magneto not be considered a bad guy? He was the founder and leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants! Both he and Doom are sociopaths IMO.

... because of his affiliation with the Nazi party. The Nazis were unfortunately all too real, even if the Red Skull is not. Mephisto isn't "the Devil", he's Mephisto... Marvel's version of the Devil. He's easier to roll your eyes at, while rolling your eyes at the "idea" of the Red Skull could be seen as dismissive of the horrors that men like him orchestrated in the actual World Wars. Red Skull's pure fiction, but his ideals certainly aren't; unfortunately.

Mr. Bamf hit the nail on its head.
