Gah.. people on this forum are treating Obama like he's the next Jesus Christ. I'm glad I'm not the only person on here who notices that.
I totally understand and realize why he's an exciting new page being turned in our nation's history, but he's just a man. Our new President, sure, but he's not going to "right every wrong" our country's been dealt (gasp.. not all of them having been dealt in the last 8 years either... crazy, I know).
He may go about righting a few of them, though, or making the attempt to.. for that.. kudos!
He's walking into an interesting situation, though.. with the economy where it is, and the troops in Iraq. I just think it's somewhat interesting how people on here who are normally quite rational are like "he's going to fix everything, with his magical powers" type-mentality. Unfortunately, he doesn't have magical powers.
It's nice that he's bringing hope to so many, though.
It IS time for someone new in office, though.. time for our President to be seen as someone we can say "I'm proud that this man is President." I honestly haven't been that way since the first Bush, or.. more likely.. Reagan.
I've always held respect for the office of the President, however. It's just nice when the man who inherits that job is totally up to the task he has before him. As our President, we expect them to be of moral fiber stronger than our own, and that may be unrealistic.. as we've seen with our last couple of Presidents.
I DID enjoy Clinton in office, though... didn't agree with everything he did, but the man could entertain. Plus, he had huge charisma. He wore his faults on his sleeve, which made America embrace him... which is why he's still parodied and talked about today. I'd definitely invite him over for football games.
Far be it from me to bring political commentary into a thread of such a casual nature...I know we're all mature enough in here to either agree or disagree on this, or agree to disagree... gah.. some of the people in a few other threads are a little stir-crazy over this.
I fully support any President we have, as that person is our President, but it's an elected office, not some angelic holy station of power. I'm not attacking Obama at all, though; I really do hope he can do our country some good, especially with the right support behind him.
