The movie will be released in August, so releasing the trailer 6 months before in February seems pretty normal.
Ant-Man will be out in July, got a trailer in January.
But what was really missing with FF is the additional promotional material like with official photos or a teaser at Comic Con.

Well I wouldn't use Ant Man as an example of smooth production process, as they had directors and actors leaving mid production.
For comparison we had a Star Wars eps 7 trailer a year in advance.

I think these guys would like to stay alive, which is probably why they arent releasing any photos or teasers at comic con...the den of geeks who will mostly be enraged at the direction this movie is going and could possibly kill them lol

SW teaser was released cause there was so much demand and anticipation for it, Disney chief confirmed that initially they really had no intentions to release it that early. No other December 2015 movies will be releasing their trailers that early.
6 to 8 months is the way most studios prefer.

I cannot wait for this trailer and movie. Should be everyone's most anticipated movie.
Trailer to debut with Kingsman.

Check the date. That was the first screening. And the movie got its premiere in London few days ago.
