So my DVD arrives Saturday and I'm super excited to jump into it. Although I've heard I should skip episode 1 cause it spoils something in episode 25...

Should I start with episode 2-25 and then go back to episode 1? Or should I just watch them all in order? What will give me the most enjoyment?

The problem with the movies versus the original series is that the movies are simply a weak cash cow.

The series omitted two (maybe three) important characters, and it skipped over the first three mangas. But the core elements of the story up to the sacrifice were all excellent in it.

The movies were terrible cgi attempts at further shortening the same arc that the series had already done, and they did nothing new. It was actually less as more important characters were taken out, and a couple of key moments were altered from the original manga to try and make the movies flow better. About the only thing worth watching is the final movie because it gives you the answer at the end that the first series didn't.

And yea, comparing the cgi movies to the new series is almost night and day. But that shouldn't excuse how bad those movies were, especially when you have the original series readily available.

There is no point watching anything Berserk related. Just read the manga.

+1000!!!!
Don't waste your time with anime or movies, even if you don't like to read manga, make an effort, it worth it.

I own and have read all of the manga, and I do agree that the manga is best, but I still enjoyed the original series, the movie trilogy, and even the recent anime (the games are enjoyable too, though the recent Dynasty Warriors clone was disappointing overall for me). I think they’re all worth checking out, especially if one doesn’t care for the manga / comics medium.

Sometimes you just want to observe something with as little effort as possible.

Also the art from the OG anime looks pretty good if you're wanting color...
