Mount the lights where you want them run the cords to and through the back of your cabinets and mount them running down use zip ties to keep the cables tidy, Then plug em in. If you have excess cord wrap it up.
Im pretty sure if you severe the strip it will render it useless and im sure Ikeas website has PDFs for setting up most anything.
