I'm not sure I deserve a "the" in front of my name...but in any case, I think I got this one. And it was right in front of me. I dismissed John Munch because of your "orderly" clue, which immediately made my brain go to E.R.
But after some thought, it's got to be Detective John Munch, as played by the inimitable Richard Belzer, just from the sheer number of shows that character has appeared in. (Which must be a record...) Those shows are:
Homicide: Life on the Street
Law & Order: SVU
Law & Order (mothership)
Law & Order: Trial By Jury
The Wire
The X-Files (this was a weird one)
Arrested Development (even weirder)
Sesame Street (aaaand...the weird trifecta)
He may have been in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but if so, I didn't see that episode. That's eight, though...just not sure if it's the eight you were thinking of, Doug.
Odd, though, to think that Sesame Street shares the same universe as Law & Order: SVU. (shudder)

Actually, those weren't the exact shows I was thinking of, but you're right.
I didn't know about the Sesame Street apperance, so I wasn't including that one. And I don't think he was ever on CI John Munch also has appeared on an episode of HBO's drama, The Wire. That makes ten shows, and five networks! That -is- a record!
You're up!

Cool!
Wait, what are the ten? I did have The Wire on my list. What was the eighth show, if you weren't thinking of Sesame Street? Just curious.
I'll think up a question a post it in the AM. I'm beat--long, long day.

Doh! I somehow missed that. So, nine shows over four networks, and Belzer played a similar detective in A Very Brady Sequel, which I'm sure was supposed to be an uncredited Munch.
Man. Talk about getting some mileage out of a character.

Okay, in keeping with the Brady-theme...who were the first two considered for the Mike and Carol roles on The Brady Bunch? As a follow-up, why were they replaced, and for what role(s) are they better known today?

Gene Hackman, Joyce Bulifant,
French Connection but I don't know what Joyce is more known for.
Brady Trivia:
We saw the Brady's bathroom many times, but not once did we see a toilet. The popular joke was that the Bradys are so good, clean and wholesome that didn't even go to the bathroom. The truth is, they had intended putting a toilet in the bathroom, but the network censors wouldn't let them.

Good job, NBR. Joyce is best known (at least to me) for being Murray Slaughter's wife on Mary Tyler Moore--but she's been in a lot of stuff.
You're up Keith!

Name the actor who also auditioned for the role of Jack Tripper in 3's Company.
As a bonus, what was the first TV show that actor appeared in?
