Yeah that's actually pretty thick for a statue nowadays

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

Price for shipping would be crazy
When on your shelf it’s irrelevant
Changing your display/reboxing/moving is a real pain

Other side of the coin I do feel we are paying more and getting less in terms weight but then again I don’t know how much weight is involved in pricing back in the old days when they were solid to now.

With boxes this large the actual weight isn't really a factor for shipping cost. Mine arrived with a broken leg too due to thin wall design.

Not when it's more than twice the current weight much less 3 or 4x times.

And no it's not because of the "thin" design. Anything that would have broken would have also damaged a full cast and it's not like you'd be happy with it if a chunk was missing from the leg.

Yes, even 2x the current weight would be the same(even with solid body it wouldn't be 3x or 4x the current total package weight). We are paying around 150 pound rate or more for a box this big. So yes, if he was solid we would be paying the same amount for shipping.

I seriously doubt it would have any damage if it was thicker walled, it was the body that failed from its own weight, not something hitting the box or something that would cause a chunk to break off.

For the record I am also pro old school solid statues they just feel more statue-y instead of a cast if that makes any sense.

Its not at half thickness, it would be more than 2x

No, it wouldn't. Most of the torso is already fairly solid with filler polystone, its mostly just the hollow parts of the limbs where the large spaces are. Making him solid would add maybe another 25-30 pounds.

Also, a side note, when I was breaking him apart there was water trapped inside, quite a bit too, so I may have been wrong about the mold issue some others were having.

Weight doesn't impact shipping cost as much as volume does. I just call it what it is, it's cost-cutting with none of the savings passed on to the customer.

A broken leg out of the box could have been prevented with a 2x cast. Filler polystone chunks doesn't make the structure any stronger. It's just cheaper, and makes it "feel" more expensive.
