A trip to Connecticut (and Wizard World Philly)

A whirlwind week to say the least. Started last Tuesday with a drive to Atlantic City. Up most of the night. Grabbed a little sleep then a drive into CT. This may not seem too exciting except that it was an invite to visit John Byrne's house and get to spend the day talking, lunch, seeing works in progress, etc.

I can hardly express how exciting this was. John is my favorite creator and being allowed a visit was a big deal for me. My inner fan boy was giggling like a young girl.

It was more than I could ask. Seven hours of admiring his art collection, going out for dinner, asking any questions I could think of about his career, and much more. John was more than gracious a host and I couldn't have asked for more.

He even signed my books I brought (yes, I am a nerd sometimes), let me read through books that won't see print until next year, and let me dig through his own original art to see what he still had available.

After the visit I was on cloud nine for days including a letdown that was Philly. Not that the show wasn't good but how do I top that first day?

A ridiculous day to say the least and one I won't forget. I can never say enough nice things about John. He has always been amazing to me including gifting me a commission when things were not great.

Here is a pic of John and I in front of his "Kirby Corner" which is two walls of original art from Jack Kirby!

I am just retire from comic books now!

Holy sh!t!!

How on earth did you get so lucky as to visit, and spend the day, with this living (IMO) legend??

A Kirby corner too?! Damn.

Wow. I think I would have to quit comics too

How cool.

That's like getting a golden ticket to Willy Wonka's.

A lot of factors got me an invite. I have been friends with his art rep for over 20 years, one of my best friends is a forum mod, I have been lucky enough to meet and have dinner with John quite a few times before (when he was still doing cons), and I've been a big time commissioner.

Awesome story and a great memory!

I got one of my first pieces of comic artwork from Jim Warden, his rep, who is a really nice guy and I was able to go to his house and pick it up. Saw Jim's art collection and it is rather impressive also.

Wow! What a day you had! You experienced something most of of could only dream about. A chance to hang out with your favorite creator and shoot the moon is priceless.

Having met you at the Motor City Con, I'm sure John was just as pleased to have you over!

(Next time can you take me too?)
