Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980) -
In late-1920s Berlin, Franz Biberkopf is released from prison and vows to go straight. However, he soon finds himself embroiled in the city's criminal underworld.
This appeared on the last
Sight and Sound poll of greatest movies ever made, but everywhere else it's described as a TV mini-series so I'm posting my review here. At 15 hours long, it's certainly thorough in documenting the main character's attempt to assimilate back into society. However, watching it nightly alongside the much more flamboyant
Babylon Berlin TV show, I honestly found it to be a little dull. Perhaps that was the wrong way to screen it.
