As an ardent NFL fan, its tragic news. His suicide was very similar to another former NFL defensive player from the Chicago Bears who committed suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He didn't shoot himself in the head because he wanted his brain to be analyzed so his surviving family may know if those concussions he received as a player caused him to have behavioral changes (i.e. suicidal thoughts, severe depression, etc.). People with depression don't discuss their illness openly because of the social stigmas but its not known yet if Junior Seau suffered from depression and kept it hidden from his family and friends.
