I don't know, but I'm certain that a prequel story isn't going to do anything to massage the mess that takes place in the future of that setting.
As long as the overall ending remains the same - I don't see any motivation to reinvest in this setting. Fool me once.....
I guess one good thing about this, if its already got you guys excited, it's going to provide great competition for The Rings of Power.....now there's a showdown I want to see.

Aemma's c-section scene was the most wicked I've seen since Shaw from Prometheus administered her own (machine assisted) c-section to remove an alien parasite

As someone who ignores GoT post S4 I'm already excited by the handling of HotD. The feel of the show, especially the dialogue is back closer to Martin's style and the character feel like humans again.
Such a treat to see King's Landing as it was and with the Dragonpit that was awe inspiring.
One aspect of the show is we are getting a narrower narrative allowing it to stay tight with a focus on Targaryen and those around them. I love the cast thus far and definitely curious where it goes.
The major tweak was that of Aegon's Dragon dream of the second coming Long Night I've been waiting for so long. Interesting to think how it may have been lost along the way and possibly been what drove Aerys mad (burn them all!)

Glad it has confidence and commitment and hoping everyone involved stays on course in the future after a promising episode one.

It’s already renewed for Season 2. HBO knows how to feed the cash cow for sure.
I really enjoyed the premier and have high hopes for the series. With only a single book that is really a historical retelling, I think it gives them so much chance to just expand on the situation but people can’t really be salty about creative licenses.

Show's moving at a fast clip. Six months between Ep 1 and 2. If this show lasts several years, they could conceivably lead right up to GoT.
More hints to the Doom of Valyria. Sounds like it could be a little more straightforward, rather than mythical that I always assumed.

Another strong episode. Loved the scene on Dragonstone...I dig the sound design on Daemon's dragon Caraxes. The reference to Vhagar is interesting, the last remaining of the old Valyrian dragons off somewhere across the Narrow Sea...when will she come into play I wonder And the Crab Feeder, yow, that is gruesome. Oh, and so cool to see the new intro sequence with the classic theme.

I didn't realize that was the time gap, must've missed it.

King Viserys mentioned his wife had died 6 months prior when getting re-married was brought up and his Brother Daemon was mention in the small council as having occupied Dragonstone for the last 6 months as well.

I agree but I am a little disappointed they just ran back the GOT theme. And the blood/turning knob gimmick didn't do anything for me. The GOT map sequence was much better.
