There are more Hot Toys collectors on the Freaks forum and youtube. I barely post about Hot Toys here as most seem to prefer statues over figures.

Hot Toys can be odd in how they release stuff. I recall their Black Widow had the same facial sculpt for two, perhaps three releases. Just with barely different makeup, hair, and some different weapons. Some of their older Iron Man figures were released with the same facial sculpt too I think.

I guess you're right, the timing is a bit odd. Good to know this particular circumstance isn't common. I know Iron Man is a giant cluster-F, but that's easy enough to avoid.
Yeah, I guess one of the things an HT collector needs to consider is the actual film release schedule. Take for example Thor 3 and Avengers 3. Thor comes out this November and the third Avengers film is scheduled for May of 2018. That's only 6 months between the two movies and it's pretty much guaranteed that Hot Toys will have Thor and Hulk figures for both films. If someone is interested in either character from either film it would be smart to hold off to see the reveal of HT's lineup for Avengers. Lock in a pre-order that doesn't require an NRD for the first film but don't commit a payment until details of the second film's collectibles have become available.

I don't recall this at all. The Black Widow figures all look to have different facial sculpts (I own three of the five versions) and the accessories are consistent with what she uses in the movies.

Essentially, they made it so that there's no reason to ever seek out the version I have in the future. Is this normal for them? Do they routinely punish people for pre-ordering and early adoption? I was looking on other boards, and not many HT collectors seem bothered by this much, so I'm wondering how common this is. They make a great product, but they've given me a reason never to pre-order or pay more than retail if this is a common occurrence.
I would consider it unfair to call it "punishing". As with all companies, it's supply and demand. Plus there is at least a year gap in time between the BvS Batman and the SS Batman going up for sale. I am surprised that BvS accessories are being included with the SS version.

Hot Toys has been known for coming out with improved versions of the exact same character / outfit year or two later down the road. This has happened with the Dark Knight / Rises Batman, DK Joker, Iron Man (multiple mk versions), War Machine and Whiplash. The newer versions often have improvements like PERS, diecast, set display pieces, new sculpts and new accessories.

The biggest sin Hot Toys has done recently is offering a deluxe version of figure months after the original. This happened with the Rogue One Deathtrooper Specialist. All other Rogue One Deluxe version went up for sale at the same time as the regular.

As with all collectibles, don't expect the one you bought will appreciate in value. Companies will always make repaints, resculpts and variants.

The most recent one is the new facial sculpt. I believe a bunch of people like that one. The one that used the same sculpt was I think the Winter Solider and Avengers 2 version. I thought there was a third but perhaps not.

They did the reused facial sculpt on Thor as well I think with Avengers and Thor 2 versions.

I mean, they're gonna do what they're gonna do and that's fine, but it's still not a great practice. I'm not concerned with resale value, and I'm not gonna bother selling mine off to "upgrade", but I do care about options. If you don't want to call it "punishing", call it 'de-incentivizing' the customer to pre-order or get on board early.

Again, I'm new to Hot Toys, so maybe I need to adjust. Based on what I'm seeing, most people who bought the first Batman don't seem fazed, so I guess I'll adjust my expectations accordingly. If this were a PF, this forum would've exploded, so it's different standards I guess.

I don't see this as a problem.... yet. While the Deluxe version was made available for pre-order a while after the regular Specialist went up, it was still well before the actual ship date of the regular. So those who placed orders for the reg still had time to cancel and order the deluxe if they were so inclined. However, should HT decide to start announcing Deluxe versions at or after the reg ships then I'd consider that a big problem.

The BvS was an unexpected hit. Everyone wanted it. So it is no surprise that HT are revisiting it. They have already made a Joker version of it!

But this is nothing compared to all the multiple Iron Mans out there, and they are just getting started on the stormtroopers

BTW, if you want the best capes, contact Tony mei on facebook or if you are not on FB, I can give you his e-mail address

Yeah, the Iron Man stuff is insane. I will eventually pick up an Iron Man, but since they seem to be repeating armors now, I'm in no rush. I'll pick my favorite later.

They are also re-releasing armors (non DC) too.
