Expensive action figures sometimes featuring die-cast metal components.

These days I am almost exclusively buying the Iron Man figures and it is more than enough to keep me busy collecting.

With me it's close but the underlying reason ends up being that I like those "hyper realistic faces" on the figures but not the statues. So...yes, it ends up being that comic characters are statues (I don't collect statues based on movie actors) while movies are figures.

Are hot toys action figures or actual statues?

I view Hot Toys film-based collectibles as high-end posable figures, not statues.
I view statues as solid state, non posable objects. Then there's mix media statues.

Over time my guess is a statue will out last a figure. The less mixed media involved the better.
The fewer parts held on with magnets the better.

I think this is why i rate 1/4 scale Gentle Giant statues highly. Even some Gentle Giant statues are mixed media.
They appear to keep it to minimum.
