Who are the most sought after modern artist

Hi all, just wondering what your top 10 top modern artist are. Who are the artist that everyone will want like Mignola, ****rum, Lee, Kirby, McFarlaine, Adams etc.
we know those ones but who do you think will jump in value.
For example, I bought Pat Broderick Doom 2099 cover for around $200 10 years ago, it's value today- about $300 not much mark up
I bought a Mignola Dr Doom/Dr Strange splash page for $100 same year and it is at least $1k
Plus Ron Lim pages where higher then George Perez pages 10 years ago, now Perez pages are gold and Lim's are silver(but rising as of late)
this hobby always confuses me, just when I think I have an idea of prices I am totally wrong
An Andy Kubric Thanos splash page sold on ebay for $480 which I thought would sell for around $250, I was way off. Is Andy that sought after an artist or is thanos just that hot right now?
What is your opinions? Take care......DOOM!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, I must admit that when I purchase an original I've never bothered to consider how it will appreciate in years to come. As for my top 10, they won't necessarily fit into a list of artists "that everyone will want"

Like most, I follow the work of specific artists whose style appeals to me. Obviously, I do check places like ebay and dealer sites so that I can keep abreast of current pricing information but that doesn't mean I won't pay more (than what I believe is a reasonable price) if it's something I want badly enough.

Pricing can vary widely depending on how much a collector is willing to pay for a piece which will throw out estimates. Demand for an artist's work can also be affected by the book/s he worked on or when it was produced in their career. For example, far more people are interested in McFarlane's Spidey and Hulk work than they are in his Infinity Inc. pages.

Marshall Rogers' work on Detective is hugely sought after but there is much less demand for his Silver Surfer work. Sadly, Marshall's recent untimely passing also affected demand and I received offers (over $2K) for my Daughters of the Dragon splash page. Given that it was the first original comic art I ever purchased (18 years ago), I couldn't bear to part with it. Just a few random thoughts

By the way, did you mean Andy Kubert? I'm not totally familiar with some of the "newer" artists and had not heard of an Andy Kubric. Best,

HI Royd, yea I meant Andy Kubert, I was just surprised how much the Thanos splash page went for, thought I was missing something or Kubert is a legend I had not heard of. I have been collecting for just over 10 years, back when $200 was a ton of money (to me), now I find very few pages under $200, which is why I need to be happy with what I have and not think I must have every thanos page, I will try to share the wealth. Of course Dr Doom is eve more popular then Thanos, so either one is high dollar. But I was reflecting upon my past purchases and noticed how some jumped miles in value compared to other pages I had bought. Then just randomly thinking, who will be the hot overpriced artist today that's pages will not increase in value? The value thing is more of wow I have a great page by a great artist.
But like I have stated before, I love Pat Broderick's work on Doom 2099, great story and art, I thought he was one of the best back then and still do. So even if his work doesn't jump in value, I love it and in the end that is all that really matters (just less bragging rights ) DOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting topic. I really didn't start paying attention to artists until I was around 11 or 12. Before that I just enjoyed good stories and good art. When I was a kid I couldn't tell you who was the artist or writer on any of my favorite comics. I just knew there was art I liked and some art I didn't.

That all changed when I first took notice of Ron Lim's art when he took over Silver Surfer. It was then that I really started paying attention to artists.

I like alot of artists from the last 20-30 years like:

Tim Sale
Ron Lim
George Perez
John Byrne
Lee Weeks
Dale Keown
Gary Frank

and many more....

I also like some of the more recent artists like:

Dell'Otto
Carlo Pagulayan
Marko Djurdjevic
David Finch
Adi Granov
Ethan Van Sciver
and the list continues on....

I won't say that I don't buy art for an investment because that would not be entirely true. I have no intention of selling any of my art now or in the future but you never know.

I try not to spend more than what I think a piece is worth. Sometimes this works out great and sometimes it probably doesn't. I'd like to think that if I ever did decide or had to sell I could get my investment back plus a couple of bucks.

I like Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis and Matt Clark of the newest generation. Jim Lee is awesome but he can hardly be called new; just when will he become a legend I wonder.

The Kubert brothers don't usually sell their work which is probably why that piece went for so much. I got my Kubert Hulk piece from the inker.

Hi Doom,

I was the winner of that Thanos piece on eBay. Main reason I was willing to spend that much was that I wanted a piece of Kubert art and this one one of the few characters/splash pages that seemed worth it to me. As is, I didn't end up with the piece. Paid for it right away through PayPal and had it set to be delivered to my job (since I'm not home during delivery times). Thought everything was fine. Got to work the Tuesday after Labor Day to see the seller had sent me 2 e-mails on Labor Day saying my work address was un-confirmed and he wouldn't send it there and that I would need to have it sent to my home address. The third e-mail was sent at 7:00 AM on that Tuesday morning, saying that since I didn't get in touch with him to make other delivery arrangements, he was refunding my money and selling the piece to the 2nd place bidder. That Thanos piece in now for sale for $600 on ComicartFans. Needless to say that seller is an @$$hat.

Anyway, on to your original question. I'd say for my any Jim Lee art (espeically X-Men), McFarlane and Alex Ross are the hardest/most expensive to come by. There are quite a few other favorites that won't cost as much, but seem to get snatched up as quickly as they become available. A few that come to mind:

Ron Lim
Brain Bolland
Arthur Adams
Gabrielle Dell'Otto

In the end it's all a matter of taste.
