Question about solvents

So I ordered some silly putty online because I couldn't find any in the stores, but I wasn't going to waste the weekend I had to paint. I used soft super sculpey, which pretty much resembles silly putty, as a masking material instead. It's not working out so well though. I've already completely ruined a paint job on these shoulder pads, so I gotta re-do those. On another part that was kind of tricky I made sure to seal off the black before I masked it to do the yellow, and then I took off the clay. There was a little bit of clay still stuck to the finished black paint which I tried to get off using a loop tool but it just smeared it around and now I have this little bit of clay residue on my finished paint job that I can't get off.

So my question is if anyone knows of a solvent that will remove clay on top of paint without damaging the painting surface? Probably a long shot, but I really really don't want to re-do this piece.

I've never tried it against Super Sculpey, but I always use Bestine Rubber Cement Thinner to remove adhesives and other oil based materials. As solvents go it's very mild. Success will also depend on what kind of paint you are trying to clean the clay off of, but I know of nothing more gentle than Bestine,... except water. You might give that a try first if you have not already.
