The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Marc Webb to direct 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' - Variety
Wasn't sure if he was going to come back. And though I enjoyed the first one I hope he delivers a far more superior film this time.

Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield Returning for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 | Collider
Another article with more details pertaining to problems during production of the first film and other studio deals which might have prevented Webb from returning for the sequel.

I had no intention of watching the first one in theaters, but having done so.. I'm glad that I did. I didn't see it as being "inferior" (to what?). Meaning.. what is the second film "more superior" to?

I saw the Raimi trilogy only a couple of times per film (via both theater and home viewings), and besides the second endeavour, this latest re-imagining is far better than any of them; ugh.. reminds me, I need to get SM 2 on BD at some point.

Well ASM was my favourite of the comicbook movies this year so I'm delighted that Marc is back to direct 2. The formalities are out of the way so on and upwards. €750 million return is very respectable.

Just like Raimi surpassed his own first Spidey film, I want this sequel to be more superior than the first Amazing Spider-Man.

Agreed, though I was pleasantly surprised with (read: enjoyed quite a bit) the first installment; Raimi's Goblin got kicked to the curb by Webb's Lizard, in my opinion.

Yep, Spidey and the Lizard in the school fight scene is one of the best examples of comic fight panels coming to life.

I think this next sequel will have the same benefit as the Raimi one did--namely, the time on-screen to avoid retelling the origin, and having that time to devote to better character development and story.

The second film in a trilogy always has opportunities that the first and third don't--it's relieved of the responsibilities to begin and end, which is huge.
