not surprised or odd at all. im actually ecstatic that there will be three different directors. just like the OT.
remember what Disney stated after they bought the entire SW universe?
they wanted to go back to the roots and make the films like they did in the OT. and those each had a different director.
im glad JJ isn't directing another even though i havnt seen the first one. a different director for each film is going to keep the films fresh. reason why the OT was so successful.
if Lucas would have done this for the prequels they very well could have been much better than they were. specially esp2 and 3.

I didn't care for the over-rated Looper. But his Breaking Bad episodes were well done, especially "Fly". We have a while to go to find out what's unique about the Ep8 story as to why Lucasfilms selected Rian for this film.

Besides choosing to go with Rian, I think another reason why JJ is not coming back is cause he likely didn't want to spend many more years with the production in London. If the shoot was in the US, I think JJ would have continued being the director for the sequel too.

This great news imo. I think the best thing they could do is use new directors for each film rather than rely on the same one for multiple films. It helps to keep the franchise fresh and exciting. The Marvel films are a great example of how well it can work.

As good as Abrams is, her certainly isn't the be all end all of directors and has made his share of less than stellar films over the years.

Name one. I'd say name two but he doesn't actually have that many films under his belt.

The words Return and Sith have been used in titles before, so they likely won't be repeated this time.

Liked all of those myself. MI:3 being the best in it's franchise, IMO of course.
