Die mold line, DIE!!!

I was so frustrated earlier. I had a mold line or a seam line running on both sides of my kit. I sanded and sanded but it was still there!
Tried it on a similar kit and it was the same problem.

I'm using 220 grit aluminum oxide sand paper and doing my best to sand in a circular motion.
The line still shows up!

What do I do?

Thank you any kind souls willling to help me out.

yes dremel is the best way to go, lightly shave the mold line down untill you have an even surfus then use your sand paper to smoth it out

hmmm thanks rob and battydave.

I thought of the dremel, but I was afraid of cutting too deep into the model itself or taking a chunk off by accident.

And what type of sandpaper grit is ideal for sanding models?

looks like i'll have to start a die fossa die thread. he was enjoying my pain :tounge:

You should be able to get a seam line off with limited hand power. One of the top modellers I knew would never use a dremel or power tool on his work. Even cutting off large sprues was done "by hand".

In addition, I have come across seam lines that weren't . Like you, I could not get rid of them but when I showed the problem to a mentor they demonstrated that while I could see a line there was none to feel. When primed the line was gone. It had something to do with the material and I have seen it in resin and metal.

I do about 90% of my mold line clean up with a rotary tool (Dremel) and a hand full of these mighty fine bits from Lasco. They come in all different grits and helpt to gently take down the mold lines and rework textures back into the kit (when they are there).

if you are worrried about the dremel try jewlers files. dremel is the easiest way but can be a bit scary until you get used to it.
