If you're worried about durability, you could try the MRP metalisers (formerly Mr Paint I believe) I haven't tried them myself, but apparently they spray really nicely through an airbrush and are tough as nails once fully dry. Worth testing on an old kit anyway.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

I'd buy their clear first and see how it works with alclad then go for the chrome if alclad test is a flop. I agree, it needs a protective coat on top of the paint...

Yea it is pricey but they do have a spray can kit (killer chrome)that is like 39 a can and supposedly as good plus uses the same clear also. Might be a simple repaint and then just add the gun metal color and possibly a wash over it.

I keep forgetting they have the spray can. I guess I tend to disqualify it because it offers less control than an airbrush for even coats.

Yea I would wanna get the spray stuff but it's pricey even for just a 4 ounce bottle. It is tho what they used for the film models just didn't clear them.

You do get all needed paints including primer, silver and clear coat and thinner for all three.

That's one of those chemical chrome systems, I think. The more you apply, the better the reflection is.

Yeah and who knows about durability. Just thought it would be awesome to slowly coat a Terminator with this stuff and watch it come alive.

It's what they use for high end chrome apps, so it's probably pretty durable. Though that Japanese solution is still new to me. Looks like it's designed for the collectibles department. I'd sooner use it than the alternatives for collectibles.
