The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

They do, but Bechara (the owner) posts maybe about 20% of his total inventory on Nostalgic Investments site. He does however appear at virtually every con. He has a lot of older high end art and some modern pieces as well. I personally think he is severely overpriced, but that's just me. At the Comic Art Con last month he had a nice Joe St Pierre Rai splash from Rai#3 that I wanted, he knew nothing about it and was asking $2800.00.

Wow. A Joe St. Pierre Rai splash for $2800. Before I speak out of turn, is there that much demand for St Pierre Rai pages? Have you asked the owner if the posted price is a mistake?

There are Valiant art collectors out there but that price is asinine. He also had the great Mark Bagley New Warriors # 11 cover, he was asking $5800.00.

A complete issue of Rai # 7 all 22 pages by Joe St Pierre just sold on Ebay for $2800.00 and that was the iconic death of the original Rai.

(Complete issue of Rai # 6 sold for less). The most I would have paid for that page is $550.00 and I think even that's high. I told him the price was insane. He had no idea what he was selling

I've only dealt with these guys only once so I'm far from an expert, but the world on the comic art forum is that these guys are really bad in the communication department and they're pretty expensive. My experience with nostalgic investments: Several of my emails were never answered and I did pay 20% more than I normally would have for the art. But paying more is on me and not them.

I would say CoolLines. I don't think I would ever buy anything from them, I also dont like the way they conduct business. They never list any of their prices. They also buy many items in auctions outbidding everyone and then marking up the price 5 x. I once inquired about the price of Unity #1 by BWS and they told me it was $14,000. Now, I absolutely understand that they can ask whatever price they want but I just don't see it ever selling that high. As I posted in another thread, I attended the Comic Art Con in March. You basically had the same dealers with the same crowd of collectors as the previous 2 times I went. I feel that that a majority of the art (especially the high-end) out there is owned by the dealers and the same collectors and it gets passed around through the same circle in either straight sales or trades. They believe that since only one exists someone will eventually pay an inflated price for it but it seems that the stuff rarely sells though.

The general mindset with selling one-of-a-kind items is if it's priced at a number many people would pay, then it's priced too low. The idea is to price the piece at a number only a few would be willing to pay. Where things get screwy is if there are only ten people willing to pay that much but there are hundreds of pieces priced at that number then something is getting lost in the equation somewhere as it's clear the market is being misunderstood. A smart seller would see that and try to sell the item sooner at a better price, then use the money to buy other artwork and the cycle begins anew, which may include repeat business. Some of these art dealers seem to get stuck on wanting the big sale. Sure, they might get it -- but they risk losing out on so many other possible ways of making more money if they sold pieces earlier.

When it comes to buying artwork, you have to do your best to stay within what you believe the piece is worth and not what another person says it's worth. Also, as it appears (most of our) kids have zero interest in comics, let alone comic artwork, when possible, try to buy stuff you can get a decent return. In that sense, spending 14k on a Valiant comics BWS page is probably not the best way to go.

Great question. Cool Lines primary issue is not pricing art and then having a moving ball for a price once you show interest. Nostalgic prices items typically about 30% over market. Nostalgic (Bacchara) is the one who wouldn't tell me how much a certain cover was priced at because he assumed I could not afford it. I later purchased said cover from RomitaMan for about half what Nostalgic was asking.

Ouch! While stories like that are great to hear, they're also sad to hear.

Is that to say Nostalgic sold it to RomitaMan or they sold it to someone else who later sold it to RomitaMan or it was a consignment piece from day 1 and just shifted over to RomitaMan?
