I"m curious if he can totally blow off 3, 4 and Prometheus.

Why not?
Hell JJ Trek totally ignored everything. (Not a fan though)

Why can't we fix ALIEN and just say alternate universe or timeline or whatever?

This is great news. I think his style lends itself well to this material.

I'd still love to see Blomkamp on a Star Wars film down the road. I think he'd be perfect. Maybe injecting some life into the ALIEN franchise outside Prometheus will lead to SW.

This is great news! Looking forward to seeing what he'll do with it.

I wonder if Prometheus 2 is off the cards now? I know some people didn't like it, but I did and I was looking forward to that also myself. I think there's room for both.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Loved D9 but thought Elysium was rather generic and poor.

The alien needs to be put back in to ALIEN.
We are very comfortable with these critters now.
It is not strange or disturbing anymore, nor compelling. So if I were him, they need to move on from the Giger heritage and insect inspired to something again strange and disturbing. Tall order I know. Sure show the old stuff but getting freaked out again would be nice.

As with Jurassic World[where there will be a hybrid dinosaur], they should make a hybrid Alien for the next Alien movie.Maybe a hybrid Queen....

Noooo, they need to make it more Giger like again imo. Make it creepy, dark and tense, that is what made the original so Alien. We've seen plenty of hybrids, they never quite live up to the original big chap. Fortunately, some of the concept art for this looked very promising.

Hopefully they'll make a new trilogy of Alien films.

Does Giger's bio mechanics have the same impact though now? We've been seeing his work for thirty five years. The Space Jockey fused with his machinery was amazing at that time. But again thirty five years later?
Now I love his stuff, but is it too familiar to us now?
I'm not disturbed by it anymore.

There have been some equally disturbing efforts I think in different directions.
I think of The Thing 1982.

Giger mixed a lot of sex into his work. Sex and horror are buttons in our brains that film makers always go for because they get results when mixed.
There is no denying the Alien's head was about as phallic as it can get. The "rape" of Kane also jarred our pysche.
Giger also often depicted sharp teeth in his works, this also pushes a primative fear button in our brains from predators.

But are their other buttons to push so to speak?

And of course the economy of using the creature, we rarely saw things very long in ALIEN. Audiences today seem to have little patience for that.

But what you imagine is often far worse than what is on screen. I'd like to see that kind of method again.
