It's not nearly as challenging as the Souls games. There is no weight management or any real distinction between armor in this game. You will always have the same amount of defense for the most part without sacrificing speed as there is only one speed of dodging and it's always fast.
Weapon upgrade paths are also VERY streamlined in this with only one type of upgrade material and slots to use gems. Your starting weapon can carry you the entire game easily if you so wish.
The only real comparisons it draws from the Souls games are in how you level up, and manage stamina. The game encourages aggressive combat as there is no blocking or shields (aside from 2 exceptions)
I only mention these things as I've had quite a few friends absolutely hate Dark Souls but fall in love with Bloodborne.
