I'm sure they thought it.

It's too late for me though. I've been buying and collecting comic books since the late 70s and I've had it. I have no joy in reading the books anymore. I am not going to shell out hundreds of dollars each month for mediocre entertainment. I held out with this Legacy series thinking it would be good (duh) but like all Marvel's big events it ends with a whimper. For us Canucks, comic books are over $5 each, definitely not worth it.

You know, I used to think that All-New Xmen was where I was starting to see the hard lean toward a more modern political story telling shoved in our faces. But now when I look back, X-men Manifest destiny was really really gleaming with Matt Fraction's view of our own world. I actually enjoyed the art back then and the storyline but man every time I go back through that book I get a little annoyed at all the little messages that outshines the character development and story.
Yet, I don't mind a writer weaving some of their own personal ideologies into their stories because that sort of thing will happen. But I really wish they would stop blatantly beating the reader over the head with these ideologies and just keep that crap in their own personal blog.

This is why I like the old Marvel cosmic stuff. No political agenda of our own world. Straight escapism. That's my ish.

Always wanted to get into the old cosmic stuff. Any stuff you recommend outside of the infinity stuff? ( I know that was more of a cross over, but that introduced me to thanos and others.) I did love the first issue of the Annihillation Star Lord stuff but never read any of the others.

Yeah, well, I'm one who called all this. Posted a thread calling the Hydra Cap storyline sensationalistic and insulting "crap," posted an article from the Atlantic about Marvel's fan-unfriendly stupidity that's caused its drop in sales, and lamented the terrible writing that took my beloved characters down a rat hole while trying to point out that well written dramatic change actually can work as with the Jane Foster Thor and the resurrection of Bucky Barnes, not to mention Rhody's Iron Man and even John Walker's psychotic Cap. While some pegged me as a dinosaur and some came at me so hard for my opinion they ended up banned, I continued to point out that well written change is great while poorly written stories just to shock and drive sales are just, well, crap.

Mr. H, I agree with you that Marvel owes us fans an apology and they should fire Axel with publicity behind the move. If not for Waid on Cap (another thread of mine) I'd continue to give up on my favorite character. And with The Thing getting his own book again I may check this out. But come back completely to a time when I'd spend literally hundreds of dollars a week? Again, I agree with you. F@&$K you, Marvel.
