Science question
ok so i was doing yard work today and cut down some trees - i left all the trees i ut down in a pile and paid no attn to them after that - just now i look outside my window and one of the trees is actually glowing in the dark - i googled this and only found 1 match from soemone with the same question but no answers - anyone know ???

wow - i was timing how fast it would be before i got a wise ass reply - perhaps i should be asking tony coca about this phenomenon ???

Actually, it has to do with certain types of bacteria that grow at the base of the tree on the roots. When it is exposed to air, it breaks down (dies) and gives off gas. It's the same reason that you smell the stinky ass seaweed when there is low tide. Sometimes this gas reacts with particles in the air and appears to glow slightly. I think there is a similarity between this stuff and the lightning bug stuff.
