Mark Brooks rates

Mark posted his rates for the upcoming Phoenix Con and he is now $1000 for full figure color and $700 for full figure B&W.

I am officially taking my goal of getting a Mark Brooks Planet Hulk in my book off the list. With a wife, family, kids college costs, for me, I can't justify $1000 for a commission at this point. I know they are cover quality but if I am going to spend that much, it would go towards an actual OA piece of artwork.

Nothing against Mark, he is a very skilled artist and I love his work and the pieces that he does are amazing, I just don't have the money flow to cover that for one commission. Hughes is getting that dollar amount and Mark is just as good as him so he deserves it.

Little disheartening as I have been chasing him for well over 7 years and remember when I was on the list when he was charging $300 at HeroesCon.

Ken, go for it!

Unfortunately, the 1k Brooks' con commissions are not cover quality. The more intricate commissions like the ones below are probably double or triple that amount by now.

I think the ones you are referring to are more like this one, if you catch him in the zone. Still beautiful but clearly a less detailed piece.

At some point you can only watch people resell them for higher and not take more yourself. The guy only gets through 3 a weekend, gotta make it worth it, to him.

For sure, I don't blame him at all, the amount of time and effort he puts into the pieces is amazing. For each years' Art Goals for 20XX, I've always had "Get a Mark Brooks Planet Hulk sketch" as on of my top goals and at this price point, I just don't have the excess funds for one piece.

Not blaming you either. As someone who used to buy commissions. I would say now spending more then 400 on a commission by anyone will leave you unsatisfied now, when delivered or sometime in the future. I understand 400 is still a lot of money, but I think it's money you can live with in the long run.

I'm sure you can't get much now for 400, but I feel like over that the money is better spent on something else.

Wow, its up to $1,000 now? Wondercon a few months ago it was $700. I even thought his color headsketches for $250 was pushing it. I'm going to try for the $50 headsketches on Sunday but I don't know what I'll be getting either.

Brooks consistently delivers good product. And I'm sure there will still be people out there paying for these. But with every artist moving to the 500+ land at this point they are pricing out a great majority of people.

This is so disheartening to me. Not that Mark is charging $1K. That's his prerogative and I don't begrudge him a bit.

Being at the shows with Steve all these years and seeing him on Mark's list multiple times at lower price points and the piece never being done is a major disappointment. I was so looking forward to seeing Mark's art in that book.

1K is a lot for something that isn't published imo. Sadly-I know the feeling as price hikes have affected my commissioning habits nowadays too. I was hoping to see a Brooks piece eventually added to that "incredible" Hulk book of yours though!

You never know what might be next for your hulk book, never be game over.
