You think that way, Robert, because everything in UK is filmed like a soap opera. No cinematographic effects or softening filters. So you’re probably used to it.

I find that even regular DVDs upconverted in a BluRay and shown on 1080p is just about as sharp as BluRay.

One thing to keep in mind when you're in a Best Buy or similar store is certain televisions increase the frame rate of a 1080p signal. Personally I don't like that as it moves to smoothly creating a less cinematic feel to it. As a result it'll look more like something you'd watch on a camcorder or "soap opera." It won't look that way on your television unless it has that capability.
As far as the difference between SDVD and HD DVD/Blu-ray there is no comparison IMO. The difference is phenomenal if you have a good HDTV.

Does anyone else think it’s a little hard to watch?
I think HD is excellent for sporting events, PIXAR-style animation, and maybe network TV, but it seems to strip something from the movies that make ‘em feel like movies.

I feel the exact opposite, the benifts of blu-ray actually draw me into the film more not less. Much sharper picture, better colours, better black levels and shadow detail, what's not to like

yep it is. Now how come you cannot rent Blue Ray dvds? Of course I may just not have noticed them since I never had one before and get my movies from Blockbuster online

You can rent Blu-ray movies from either Blockbuster online or Netflix. All you need do is adjust your account preferences if you have an existing plan. I know Netflix charges a dollar or so more a month but I'm not sure about BB. Netflix seems to generally have better title availability (both could be better though) but with BB you can use their local video stores too.
