Went into Wondercon with a few set ideas for art and then ran across a few opportunities and had to take advantage of them. My goal was to get some great art for a good price, so that kept me away from a few tables where there were some great artists; just artist's that if I got something by, this post would consist of one piece of art. I stayed within my budget (ok, I went $40 over, but that was to get the Bloom County book and then have it signed by Berke Breathed, but that was definitely worth it to me). So here's what I was able to get, in no particular order:
Tony Daniel Catwoman. One of only 7 sketches (by raffle) he did at the Hero Initiative booth on Saturday.
Ron Lim Gamora. Picked up some art from Ron (thanks Drew), and it just seemed right to have him do a drawing of Gamora. Probably because I'd recently been revisiting the Infinity War series.
Humberto Ramos Catwoman and Spider-Woman. All the guys at this booth were just super cool so when I got the first commission, I had to back for another. It helps that I like Ramos's very distinct style.
Rahsan Ekedal Black Cat. This was a pick up because of all the great art by him that was featured on this site. So thanks to everyone here who highlighted art by him. One of the reasons that I love this forum.
Our very own Cat Staggs did this Poison Ivy for me. Was a bit of a different take on her than I was expecting, but it blew me away all the same. I love letting artist's do what they do and seeing what they produce.
Francis Manapul Batgirl. This was actually the very last one done at the Hero Initiative booth on Friday, as I snuck in at the end. Francis was already going overtime with a cool Hellboy and the Captain America featured in the other thread. I had talked with him earlier at the DC booth, so he remembered me and was willing to sneak the last one in for the good cause that was the Hero Initiative. It still blows my mind as I watched him do the Hellboy, Captain America, and then this piece all with watercolors. It was amazing as he was using the one brush and he got fine detailing done, then broader strokes of color, then mixing colors for shading. I was talking to him for a bit, but at one point just stopped because I was blown away watching him actually paint this.
Comments are welcome, both here and at my CAF.
