Lol, you say it in jest bro but at the same time I wonder if this dynamic couldn't indeed give GG a competitive advantage if they can offer comparable product for a more consumer friendly price.

trends show there is money to be made in the collectible market place. Seems to be a good fit and a way to expand its brand presence. I don't see it driving prices down though, thats more due the price of doing business in the Asian markets.

absolutely. which hopefully will translate over to the consumer for sure.

imagine if 3d systems is working on a machine or a series of machines or method that could produce hard copies for the production pieces at a high rate to where there wouldn't need molding and casting anymore?
a series of machines that would just pump out production pieces all ready for assembly and paint.
man. that would drop prices all around everywhere for the ones still molding and casting for that method would be obsolete.
just look at what digital sculpting has done to the traditional method. before the traditional method was very expensive. but has since dropped due to the faster and more less expensive digital sculpting.
whats clear is that this is a good thing. and i cant wait to see what comes of it.

3D Systems buys Gentle Giant Studios

9:20 AM ET, 01/03/2014 - Associated PressROCK HILL, S.C. -- 3D Systems has purchased Gentle Giant Studios, which provides 3D modeling for the entertainment and toy industries.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Gentle Giant, based in Burbank, Calif., has led the development of state-of-the-art content using 3D scanning and modeling to develop and make licensed 3D printed characters, toys and collectibles from a variety of franchise properties including Marvel, Disney, AMC's The Walking Dead, Avatar, Harry Potter and Star Wars.
Last month 3D Systems, which makes 3-D printers, announced that it would acquire part of Xerox Corp.'s product design, engineering and chemistry group for $32.5 million in cash in order to expand its business.
Shares of 3D Systems Corp., which is based in Rock Hill, S.C., rose $1.43 to $95.62 in Friday premarket trading.
Yeah it is a bit on the high side, but I see it as a momentum stock. 2014 will be the year that the consumer printers get released to the general public and with the patents expiring, I expect there to be aggressive company activity in terms of products being released and more companies getting acquired.

Of course, I could be totally wrong and lose money lol

I actually just went to my IRA account to see about getting some shares. Now if I buy from GG I'm only helping myself.

From a collectibles standpoint, I would imagine they will start trying to aggressively leverage the licenses that GG holds and has been dragging their butts on--Star Wars, Marvel, LoTR, Hobbit, etc. Might also put some additional heat on Sideshow in the 1:4 marketplace. I'd like to see them offer 1:4 scale busts.
