an ancient Medicine Man

I have always been fascinated and humbled by the spirit of courage and pride in American Indians.

I sculpted this back in '95, intending to do a lot more in the same vein. Things happen, and I still have not revisited the subject but I do intend to in the future.

Of course not.

Actually I need to hone my skills quite a bit with the chick figures. I need to do a lot of research for that.

Did you base that on any particular person? I was raised on the edge of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Indian reservation in Northeastern South Dakota and there are a lot of old photos of native Americans around, particularly Lakota.

There are no known photos of Crazy Horse in existence, but Sitting Bull is a very recognizeable figure. I've always thought Gall was a stiking looking person too, Rain in the Face, Chief Joseph, and of course Geronimo are really famous and recognizeable to people who no about them.

Here is Gall

Rain in the Face

and of course, Sitting Bull
