Statue cleaning

Hey all,

Just got a statue that's pretty old and spent it's life out on display - it's pretty dusty. I need some thoughts on how to clean this bad boy, beyond just dusting.

Thanks all.

VM

I've literally taken rags and wash clothes to statues to clean dusty pieces like that (that greasy, almost caked on dust).

You're caught between a rock and a hard place with a piece like that. Whatever method you need to use to remove that dust may remove the paint too. Whatever you do, don't use anything but water though.

Warm bottled water and cotton swabs.
Let the area get wet wait several minutes then wet it again then use the swab.

first off a very small amount of water...Canned Air...Use a soft camera lens brush or a soft toothbrush..I also purchased a paint brush kit for the small areas...terry cloth to wipe it without scratching the paint...be careful with the toothbrush head, don't want to chip the paint.

I use this method on my Hulk PF hair and body...took me like three days to get all dust off the big guy...

Watched the canned air, use it straight and level or you can risk freezing the paint and get cracks because the propellent can come out very cold.
