That is essentially what led me to wanting to ask this question to the forum. If I saw someone rate those two movies with the same score my first reaction would have been like "how in the... no way they think those two movies are in the same league". Now that I've thought about how to phrase this question to the forum, and seeing some of the responses, something like that is beginning to make A LOT more sense. It's just not how I thought people were rating their movies.

its all my personal opinion

a perfect movie where I would change nothing gets a 10
if it was enjoyable but I would change minor things I give it 9
if it was enjoyable but I had issues with things in the movie 8
if it was ok but I found several things distracting overall taking away from the movie 7
if it was not good but not terrible 6
if it was not good 5 and below depending on how bad it was

I rate by how it connects to me emotionally. Sometimes an actor connects with me in a good way, sometimes it's the editing or direction, sometimes it's the script and every once in a while it's a combination of all 3. I honestly do not appreciate so called classics. I've tried to watch them many times and just can never connect with them. To me, cinema started essentially in the 80's.
