New approach to comic art collecting in 2017
So I've decided to change my approach to comic art collecting recently. I've mainly collected splash pages and cover art along with the occasional commissions over the last 10 to 12 years. With the rising prices of comic art I just don't have the same buying power that I used to.
I am now focusing on panel pages from stories I love and also comics that I am currently reading. This approach has definitely rejuvenated my interest in collecting again. I can get great art that I love without breaking the bank.
Not my first purchase of the year but the first that I have in hand. A Humberto Ramos page from Champions which has been a fun read so far.

I'm in a similar boat in that the rising prices of artwork have largely taken me out of the game, and like yourself and numerous others here, I was also willing to fork over (what I thought was) a good amount of cash too at one time. I'm finding it hard these days to find the occasional good deal, unless it's from someone looking to unload an overpriced commission. It makes me wonder who we have been replaced with, or if this is more a question of a select few hoarding for the future. All this to say, if I didn't have the ''if I don't frame it, I don't buy it'' rule, I'd buy the occasional panel page but it's really never been my thing.
Nice page though. Nice to see everyone on it.

Very cool. I have stepped back on how much I am purchasing so that naturally means more panel pages and reasonably priced commissions. I am hoping to spend less than 25% of what I did last year.

It's really never been my thing either but I just had to change my way of thinking. With prices WAY above my comfort level, it was either quit or adapt. I was starting to buy more statues but my first passion is comic art so this is a nice way to stay in it without breaking the bank.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still watching covers and splashes but panel pages are going to be my main focus to get my art fix.

Well you made some great purchases last year and that's just what I've seen. Get all those pages on CAF already!

I actually quite like a good panel page as it demonstrates the artists talent for sequential storytelling, which ultimatly is the essence of what comics are.

Good call. I've been in it a spell too, I think you kinda have to freshen it up every now and then to keep your interest piqued.

GREAT goal Jade Giant! I dunno if I have that kind of willpower. Less than 25% of what you spent last year-that's gonna be tough--at least it would be for me!

I heard it was 60k. 15k isn't a bad budget for this year.
