That would indeed be an improvement to the statue ,but overal I think it looks nice ,surprised it gets all this negative comment .

....probably because of the price. At $225 DC should deliver nothing less than perfection.

The problem is that I'll probably never get to work with DC Direct. I sculpted a bust of Rorschach about 2 years ago for charity. I sent pics over to the guys at DC Direct. I get an e-mail forbidding me to sculpt their characters again, and a Cease and Desist. FOR A PIECE THAT I DID FOR CHARITY. I was pretty pissed at the fact that I'd done something good, didn't make any money, and basically made DC look good.

It's funny, one of the people who won their Talent Search, is also producing statues of their characters. Kind of funny how they haven't paid attention to that little bit of bootlegging.

I decided to sculpt my own Superman statue, as I'm a fan of Jim Lee's work. I plan to zip him a casting of the Superman, and the new Batman piece I'm currently finishing up. As far as me working for DC Direct, probably will never happen.

It does seem strange that they take this hard line. Particularly with portfolio pieces. How else can you show these people you can sculpt their characters?

Bullseye, my relationship with DC Direct goes back to 2001. I met both of the guys who really run the show, and they were pretty cool at first. Something pissed someone off over there when I donated an Animated Series batman casting to ACTOR. Apparently it made the people at ACTOR a lot of cash, and of course, they were pretty steamed about it for God knows what reason.

At any rate, I didn't hear anything back from anyone, even though I was sending them pics and stuff of what I was doing. I then donated the Rorschach bust to charity, and that's when the crap hit the fan.

Not sure why, but you know, I stopped caring a long time ago. I enjoy sculpting their characters, but I'm not interested in getting a lot of flack for no good reason. I don't sell the castings, just the originals. More often than not, I've given away more than I've ever sold.

It's just the lawyers making things tough, and justifying their jobs, nothing more.

So why don't they get upset at the likes of Jim Lee doing commissioned pieces of their characters at comic cons. Seems like double standards to me.

I made that point when I addressed their e-mails, and C and D. There was no rebuttal.

Selling originals, is probably a bad idea as much as selling prints, castings etc. The issue here is that I am not doing this for profit, I'm doing this for myself. I'm a selfish prick when it comes to doing art. I do what I like to do, for myself. I don't do it because I want other people to be happy with me, or like me. I do what I want, and if other people like it, BONUS.

The first Jim Lee Batman piece I did, was pretty neat and all, but it didn't really match the Superman I did. So, I'm currently working on the new Batman that will actually kind of go with the Supes. Not sure what the base will be yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something.

Just make QUALITY statues with perfect likenesses to their artists (Lee, McGuiness, Turner.....).
