Tombs of the Blind Dead - 6/10 - A 1971 Spanish horror flick that kicked off a series, I picked this one up on Amazon for $5. I was introduced to the film by a recent, beautiful, icons of horror mini-bust set just released. The ghouls were cooler than hell. Job well done on their make-up & puppet work (skeleton hands, etc...). The plot kinda blew but was watchable in a campy, fun kind of way. Not sure if I'll take a dip back into the Blind-Dead pool w/ the sequels, but the 1st one was fun.

House By The Cemetery next.

Nadja (1994) - Members of a dysfunctional family of vampires are trying to come to terms with each other, in the wake of their father's death. Meanwhile, they are being hunted by Dr. Van Helsing and his hapless nephew.

It has many flaws, but I enjoy watching this quirky indie around the holidays. I forgot Mad Men's Jared Harris had a starring role. 6/10

Return of the King (extended) 9/10. Originally I'd have given this a 10. But is is just me or are the cgi effects starting to look dated. Not sure how these movies will stand up in 50 years time. Whatever you say about the epics of the 40's through the 60's the practical effects still look pretty good. CGI is something that will continue to improve and by virtue look dated. Also something which Jackson fails miserably at is editing in that he doesn't.

Miami Vice. 8/10 this is a real guilty pleasure for me. Mann is one of two or three directors who I really am excited when he announces a new project. It's just a pity we have to wait so long between his movies. Role on Cyber in 2015.

Despicable me 2 8.5/10 not as good as the first but it was much better the second time around wish there was some more newer music than rehashed music from the first

Percy Jackson sea of monsters 7.5/10 again not as good as the first but entertaining enough

Xmas marathon
Home alone 2 8/10
Deck the halls 6.5/10
A very Harold and kumar Xmas 7/10 had its moments but nowhere near as good as the first I think it ran its course...second was pretty bad

Anchorman 2: 7/10 - I'm a huge fan of the original, and the first half of the sequel was hilarious, but the second half falls pretty flat. It's a shame because I was really enjoying it, but it went on way too long with most of the gags in the last half pretty weak. Especially the cameo soaked ending which really wasn't funny at all.

The House By The Cemetery (1981) 2/10. Italian-made, utter crap. Have heard that this was a classic in the European genre'. I heard wrong. This made no sense whatsoever. Won't even go into details w/ what was wrong because there are just so many. morose, unexplained toddler-sobbing heard throughout picture, which was never explained. Clueless victimized family, so goofy in their approach to the haunted New England mansion they moved into that I was stunned and was glad they died. A couple fun slayings and the semi-retarded monster was cool to look at. That's about it.
