The Wire - seasons 1-5 - The Baltimore drug scene, as seen through the eyes of drug dealers and law enforcement.

It's as magnificent as I've heard. Maybe the best cop TV series I've ever seen. 10/10

Expect my Shōgun rating in around 2040.
I watched this last year finally and I agree, so good.

I know that tops many people's list, but for some reason I have no desire to ever see it.

How do you two rank it compared to other popular #1 picks? (regular series)

For me, Sopranos is far and away #1.

Deadwood
Newhart
Cheers
The Office (US)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
The Golden Girls
Community
Seinfeld
X-Files
Game of Thrones (minus last season)
The Boys

in no order, a dozen top favorites of mine. Chernobyl and True Detective S1, my favorite limited series. I imagine I'll be adding Shogun soon.

I also give The Wire a 10/10 rating. Belongs up there with other top shows. Breaking Bad is still our best show ever rating.

Those are great, but my #1 limited series is still Band Of Brothers

I kind of felt the same as you initially because The Wire is a cop show and TV has been oversaturated with those over the years. I finally relented because the hype was so overwhelming--and it delivered. I don't know if I'll ever rewatch it because TV series are such a big time commitment for me, but I'm very happy I saw this one.

As for my list of TV favorites, Mad Men remains far and away my #1.

Breaking Bad had the best series finale I've ever seen. The only other show that came close I think was The Americans.

The Americans was so good! I was late to that one, glad I finally watched, and managed to get a friend hooked on it as well.

All this chatter really reminds me that I give mediocre stuff too much of a pass, because really good stuff is in fact out there

I?m just calling the main dude Mr T at this point.

I expect this will be a show that I rewatch once it’s all out. I have the benefit of my husband explaining some of the details that aren’t overly clear in the show. Like why he made it to Japan on sheer accident and luck.

I?m sure you will love it when you get there.

Enjoy The Wire. I keep meaning to rewatch this and never do.
