There has been some great advice given in here. Awareness of your space and budget are two of the biggest - no one should miss paying their rent or bringing their significant other out to dinner over statues.

That said, going along with the theme of buy what you like - do you have a favorite team cover? Hunting down the characters on that cover could make a nice display along with the book itself. Kind of 2 dimensional meets 3 dimensional.

I would decide on a scale followed by marvel or dc or other.
When i started.. i just collected what i liked and it resulted in james bond...and star wars... and terminator and others... the collection was out of control... now i am sticking with marvel... sideshow...and thats it
