Steve Rude?
Curious if there are any Steve Rude fans here? And if so, what do you like about his art?

Funny you should say this as i am debating asking for a commission by him. I came across a nice Big Barda by him and wouldn't mind something similar. I can never quantify why I like an artist, I just do.

massive fan of his stuff
Got the nexus sketch for $50 when I ordered some of his comics and the Nexus promo DVD
went ahead and ordered his commisions for nightwing watercolour and catwoman coloured piece.
I get most of what he releases: books, prints
You can't go wrong. Jaynelle is great at answering e-mails. You have the friendliest service. Steve will sometimes refuse some pieces because he doesn't like the characters(I had this problem with nightwing), but seeing as you want a kirby piece, you will have NO problem
His commission/sketch books are great as well
and someone please tell me why the idiots at DC didn't want to release this WW poster?

Joy - great stuff. Have no idea why they wouldn't release that.

Huge fan of his art...had numerous commissions and originals by him...is a pleasure to deal with as well....His commissions can be pricey...but...are worth it....
if you have a chance to get something from him do it...
in a couple of months im hoping to have enough to get one more commission from him....
we'll see...with the statues coming in it makes it so much harder...( oh yeah...and a mortgage...a child....eating....gas...etc...

Big Steve Rude fan, here!
As to why I like him, he has a true love for classic characters, and the dynamic Jack Kirby influence is very clear. He also incorporates a bit of Alex Toth's style, in that his lines are clean, and he doesn't add a lot of unnecessary detail into the work - every line or shadow serves just enough purpose. So, when an artist can blend the best elements of Kirby and Toth, they're all right in my book.
Also, let's talk about that WW painting: it has a very bright, cheery, early-20th century look to it. Lots of Rude's color works have this feel - almost like a '40s magazine ad. It's sort of calming. Quite a few artists, if they received a Wonder Woman job, would go for either T&A or ultraviolence... instead, Rude draws her playing with kittens at a county fair. I like that.

I am a big Ride fan, have 2 original pieces. Wish he'd do more for the big 2, not crazy about the Moth. No more Nexus, which is a crime.

I am a fan but haven't picked up any art (avoiding this black hole)
If you have some original stuff - post it here!

im not sure if he ever wreally wants to do anything major fopr marvel or DC....remember the cap mini he did for Marvel...i think that was the last thing and it left a sour taste with him (they never used his covers for issues 3 &4 on that one) Creative differences i believe...
