IDW Artist Edition Thread

Haven't seen much discussion on these so I thought I'd start a dedicated thread. They're pricey (retail for $150, I believe).

Let's include Artist Edition, Artifact Edition and Artisan Edition. From IDW's website, here's the description of each:

Artist's Editions

AN ARTIST?S EDITION PRESENTS COMPLETE STORIES WITH EACH PAGE SCANNED FROM THE ACTUAL ORIGINAL ART.


While appearing to be in black and white, each page was scanned in color to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art?for instance, corrections and blue pencils. Each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board.

Artifact Editions

Like an Artist?s Edition, an Artifact Edition presents pages scanned from the actual original art. While the Artist?s Edition line produces only complete stories, Artifact Editions allow IDW to present books even if all of the original art cannot be obtained, and will include extras such as advertisements, portfolio pieces, colour guides, and more.

Artisan Editions

Introducing a new format within the Artist?s Edition brand?the Artisan Edition! Softcover format, 8 x 12 inches, but still collecting complete stories that are all painstakingly scanned from the original art. An Artisan edition is done to the same exacting quality standards as IDW?s award-winning Artist?s Edition series, just at a smaller (and more manageable!) size.

As absolutely amazing as all of these are, especially the signed Mazzuchelli and Simonson books, my favorites are the Gene Colan Tomb of Dracula and the Joe Kubert Enemy Ace books. Seeing these two in their original art form are simply breathtaking!!

Later this year the David Mazzuchelli Batman Year One Artist’s Edition and the Neal Adams Artifact Edition both come out!

I have 2. Both Joe Kubert editions. I have his Tarzan & his Tor. Don't get me wrong, I love them both & have within the past week, reread my Tor, which is a masterpiece. That being said, logistically they're a pain in the a$$. I can't display them because they're just too big. Reading them is tough ... because they're too big. I keep mine in their boxes which doesn't grab the eye at all. When I eventually sell them, how in the heck will I ship them?

Looks like you and I have many of the same volumes. I?ve also got some of these same Graphitti Designs books; however, I didn?t include this as I meant for this thread to be more about the IDW products.

Jerry, I agree. Logistically, these books are awkward as hell to store, display and even read. That said, I love reviewing the art in its original drawing board size!

I?ve got mine stacked in several piles on both tiers of my basement two-tier coffee table. It?s the only way I can think to display or show them.
