Have always just liked this title from the 70's - Red Circle Sorcery -

Bright & fun color, yet .... frightening as hell

Red Circled (connected w/ Archie & Blue Ribbon comics) did other horror books, like Madhouse & Chilling Adventures - * It was in Archie's Madhouse, a has-to-be-connected book, issue #22, that the Teenaged Witch, Sabrina was 1st introduces in. "Chilling Adventures", which you see lots of as an intro. title to many of the Red Circle' books, is currently be used as an intro-title in Archie Comics' newish Sabrina book.

Let's slide on into the late 60's/early 70's w/ some groovy Ghostly Haunts horror from Charleton. Eye-grabbing on the 7-11 spin-racks.

Anyone ever see Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark back on 70's tv?

With Charleton, one can clearly see the dimming down of the horror switch. The covers are no where near as horrific, detailed or gruesome. Comics Code at work.

Winding on down with a week to go. Gold Key, in terms of Horror, hit their stride in the late 60's, early 70's. Their covers were fantastic, but the stories, when compared to the Horror craze of the 50's, rally lacked. I've read a lot of them, but the only books, imo, which stand the test of time, are the Dr. Spektor ones w/ the hero being Gold Key's version of Marvel's Dr. Strange. Here are some classic Gold Key' covers -

After the Comics Code basically neutered Horror Comic's ability to truly frighten & shock, horror comics just sort of floundered for a few decades. Sure, interesting things were being done on covers, but the stories basically blew. Until ... DC comics came along with their horror line &, while working within the confines of the code, still managed to write & illustrate beautiful, 70's page-turners. It was this line that hooked me & created my lifelong love of the genre. Too much for 1 day, so I'm going to do 2. Marvel tried, but couldn't keep up.

DC Horror -
